Dear Friends of our Seven-String Guitar Festival!
This year we are offering only two concerts in Iowa City, but each one gives you an opportunity to hear rare beautiful music performed by talented international artists!
Our first concert on Friday, October 4th will showcase the history of the seven-string guitar. In addition, you will be enchanted by the songs and romances from the 1834 manuscript by Andrei Sychra (1773–1850). Our guest, the accomplished Armenian singer Margarita Parsamyan is collaborating with the guitarists of the festival to make this evening truly memorable. Our Scottish guest Jamie Akers will charm you with his impeccable technique and rare musicality.
Our second concert will be dedicated to a recently reconstructed music manuscript for the seven–string guitar and piano, for which we will be joined by the exquisitely talented Mariya Akhadjanova (Uzbekistan-USA). This mid–19th-century musical treasure eloquently shows that at the time, the Russian Empire was an integral part of Europe: French popular songs next to variations on Italian opera arias, as well as Russian and Ukrainian folk songs. You will also hear several ensembles with guitar, and the IARGUS 2024 Guitar Trio!
But most of all, both concerts will bring what our festival is renowned for: warm, friendly atmosphere, virtuosity, and the spirit of discovery! I invite you all to join us for both concerts!
